I MISS KASETSART

Filed under: Uncategorized — celinejulie @ 9:22 am

I used to go to Kasetsart many times during 1992-1994, because my close friends studied there. I love its atmosphere very much. It is nice I had a chance to visit it again.

Kasetsart University is so big and the atmosphere is so pleasant that I wish someone would make a two-hour film, consisting of an uninterrupted long take of a group of people walking around Kasetsart, talking to each other.

FUSE SHOWCASE VOL. 4

Filed under: Uncategorized — celinejulie @ 9:03 am

FUSE SHOWCASE VOL. 4 is available now in bookstores. It includes a dvd of Thai short films and interviews with many Thai short filmmakers, including Prap Boonpan, Tuksina Pipitkul, Napat Treepalawisetkun, Ratchapoom Boonbunchachoke, Janenarong Sirimaha, Suphisara Kittikunarak, Wassachol Sirichanthanun, Professional Dry Cleaner, Romrawin Chumjin, Chaiwat Wiansantia, Issara Boonprasit, Chaloemkiat Saeyong, Taiki Sakpisit, Nok Paksnavin, and Yutthana Seneewong.

I’m very glad that FUSE SHOWCASE VOL. 4 captures some images and texts from PERU TIME (2008, Chaloemkiat Saeyong, A++++++++++), so that I can decode more of its texts. The texts captured in this magazine include: okogmjkwsijclh; 3sinv4xudyocoj skd0t[vd;jk ,;]8;k,i^hl7dvpjk’g8p oyhopy’8′vp^j8’9vcs]lbhofu z,fyo9bfvp^jdy[mujvpjk'ouhgv']jt i^h;jk m6dvpjk’,yow,jgs,nvogfb,vudc]h;

The texts can be decoded into Thai as:

นานเท่าไหร่แล้ว –หรือกี่ปีกันแน่
How long ago? Or How many years?

หากจะบอกว่า มวลความรู้สึกอย่างเคย
นั้นยังคงอยู่คงตอแหลสิ้นดี
If I say that the mass of past feelings still remain, that would be a total lie.

ผมดันติดอยู่กับที่อย่างนี้เองล่ะ
It’s me who just got stuck right here.

รู้ว่า ทุกอย่างมันไม่เหมือนเดิมอีกแล้ว
I know that everything has changed.

IT IS IN THE INSIGNIFICANT MOMENT THAT SIGNIFICANCE BECOMES DISTURBED

Filed under: Uncategorized — celinejulie @ 12:32 am

I found the following quotes in Mubarak Ali’s blog. I like them so much that I copy them and post them here, too.

http://supposedaura.blogspot.com/2009/10/my-hand-outstretched-to-winged-distance_13.html

Nathaniel Dorsky in Devotional Cinema: “If you have ever looked at your hand and seen it freshly without concept, realized the simultaneity of its beauty, its efficiency, its detail, you are awed into appreciation. The total genius of your hand is more profound than anything you could have calculated with your intellect. One’s hand is a devotional object.

“If a film fails to take advantage of the self-existing magic of things, if it uses objects merely to mean something, it has thrown away one of its great possibilities. When we take an object and make it mean something, what we are doing, in a subtle ot not so subtle way, is confirming ourselves. We are confirming our own concepts of who we are and what the world is. But allowing things to be seen for what they are offers a more open, more fertile ground than the realm of predetermined symbolic meaning. After all, the unknown is pure adventure.”

(Gregory Markopoulos: It is in the insignificant moment that significance becomes disturbed and the power of filmmaking is established.)

UNCATEGORIZABLE

This is my comment in Wise Kwai’s blog:
http://thaifilmjournal.blogspot.com/2009/11/wffbkk-09-final-notes.html

Thank you very much for the links. I’m glad you like GREEN ROCKING CHAIR and MY WHITE BABY. I like the freeze frames in MY WHITE BABY very much. This film unintentionally makes me think about my own childhood or the time when I still played with some Caucasian-looking dolls. I also like the use of voiceover and animation in this film. I also think GREEN ROCKING CHAIR and THE WET SEASON are “uncategorizable”.
