BOOK WISH LIST: ALLEGORICAL IMAGES

Filed under: Uncategorized — celinejulie @ 7:34 pm

–Jesse Ataide posted a poetic review on INDIA SONG (1975, Marguerite Duras) by Alison Smith in his blog:
http://memoriesofthefuture.wordpress.com
Alison Smith wrote two interesting books:

1.AGNES VARDA

Sonthaya Subyen gave me this book.

2.FRENCH CINEMA IN THE 1970’S: THE ECHO OF MAY

I haven’t found this book in Thailand yet.

–As for books about films, the number one in my wish list right now is ALLEGORICAL IMAGES: TABLEAU, TIME AND GESTURE IN THE CINEMA OF WERNER SCHROETER. The book is written by Michelle Langford. If anyone knows where this book is available in Bangkok, please tell me.

I know about this book from Twilight Virus’ blog:

  1. Oh wow, I wasn’t even aware of that French Cinema in the 1970’s book! I really wish I had some money to devote to books at the moment…

That Allegorical Images book looks terrific as well.

  2. I also wish that some books about films should have some DVDs included in them, or the DVDs and the book should be sold together. I think that it is much easier to buy the book ALLEGORICAL IMAGES, but it is much harder to find the films discussed in the book. Films by Werner Schroeter are really hard to find. 😦

I just went to a secondhand book shop in Bangkok and found a book about Liliana Cavani being sold for 10 US dollars, but I didn’t buy it because I don’t know when I will see films by Liliana Cavani. I have seen only two of her films—RIPLEY’S GAME (2002, A+) and THE NIGHT PORTER (1974, B+).
