This is about a poll in my bilingual blog:

My poll 23 is inspired by three films I love and saw in May: JUNO, MIDNIGHT RAINBOW, and DEK JOE. These three films are about female teenagers. So I think I should make a list of my favorite films about female teenagers.

1.BELLYFRUIT (1999, Kerri Green, USA)

2.BU SU (1987, Jun Ichikawa, Japan)

3.DEK JOE (2008, Pakwan Suksomtin, Thailand)

4.DOIN’ THE DO (a music video of Betty Boo, UK)

5.FOR KEEPS? (1988, John G. Avildsen, USA)

6.GETTING MY BROTHER LAID (2001, Sven Taddicken, Germany)

7.GINGER SNAPS (2000, John Fawcett, Canada)

8.GLASS TEARS (2001, Lai Miu-suet, Hong Kong)

9.HI TERESKA (2001, Robert Glinski, Poland)

10.I ALWAYS WANTED TO BE A SAINT (2003, Genevieve Mersch, Luxembourg)

11.I, TARENEH, AM FIFTEEN (2002, Rasul Sadrameli, Iran)

12.JUNO (2007, Jason Reitman, USA)

13.LIME (2001, Nathilde Overrein Rapp, Norway)

14.MIDNIGHT RAINBOW (2008, Patta Tongpan, Thailand)

15.MOUCHETTE (1967, Robert Bresson, France)

16.OR (2004, Keren Yedaya, Israel)

17.VANAJA (2006, Rajnesh Domalpalli, India)

18.VIOLET PERFUME: NOBODY HEARS YOU (2001, Marisa Sistach, Mexico)

19.WINNING LONDON (2001, Craig Shapiro, USA)

20.WISH YOU WERE HERE (1987, David Leland, UK)

You can cast multiple votes.

SPOILERS: When I say these films are about female teenagers, I don’t mean that the main topic of the films is female teenagers. In the case of MIDNIGHT RAINBOW, the female teenager in the film is actually “a state of mind” of a brutal female serial killer. In the case of DEK JOE, I’m not 100 % sure that the protagonist of the film is actually a boy or girl, but from my first viewing, I guess the protagonist is a girl who is a psychotic murderer.

  1. This is my reply to Renegade Eye in my bilingual blog:

I like MEAN GIRLS (A-) a lot, and I think it should be screened together with HEATHERS (1989, Michael Lehmann, A+).

I haven’t seen CHARLIE BARTLETT (2007, Jon Poll), but it sounds interesting. I like Anton Yelchin very much when he starred in HOUSE OF D (2004, David Duchovny, B+).

Another favorite American film about teenagers is PRETTY PERSUASION (2005, Marcos Siega).
