SONTHAYA SUBYEN, BILL HENSON, PHILIPPE GRANDRIEUX

–The new issue of FREEFORM magazine is available now. It has an article from Sonthaya Subyen about a photographer. The article is THE TWILIGHT WORLD OF BILL HENSON.

I had never known this photographer before. But Sonthaya wrote that his photographs has the smell of dangerous crimes like the films of the three princes of darkness—David Lynch, Philippe Grandrieux, and Fred Kelemen.

I’m very glad to read Sonthaya’s article in this magazine. I think he is one of the best Thai film critics, though he hasn’t written much lately.

He will hold an exhibition early next year. The exhibition is 13TH ANNIVERSARY D.K. FILMHOUSE (FILMVIRUS). The exhibition will be held during 9-28 January, 2009, at Jamjuree Art Gallery, Chulalongkorn University.

–From FREEFORM magazine, I also know that Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook will hold an exhibition of her artworks, photographs, and videos at Ardel Gallery from 10 March – 10 April 2009. I love the title of her exhibition very much. It’s called IN THIS SITUATION, THE ONLY THING THAT MATTERS IS THE BETRAYAL OF THE MOON. (ในสถานการณ์เช่นนี้ สิ่งเดียวที่ควรใส่ใจ คือการทรยศของดวงจันทร์)

–Some photos by Bill Henson

  1. Can you please provide the article either by scanning it or transcribing it? Pretty pretty please! Bill Henson is my favorite photographer, Grandrieux’s “La Vie Nouvelle” and Lynch’s “Mulholland Drive” are in my top 10. Not to mention “Celine and Julie Go Boating” is my favorite film of all time. Please this would mean the world to me because I’d always seen a correlation between these artists and I’d love to to see how Sonthaya Subyen interpreted it. Thanks! You run an amazing blog!

  2. Thank you very much for your kind words. I’m very glad to know that someone is interested in Sonthaya’s article. However, I’m not sure if I can find the magazine or not, because I just moved to a new apartment and all the books and magazines are not in the right places now. I’m also very busy with a film festival at the moment. I’m very sorry that I may not be able to help you at this point. 😦

By the way, Sonthaya’s blog is here:

You can contact him at filmvirus@yahoo.com

If in the future I find the magazine and have time to summarize it, I may post it in this blog and will alert you via your email. 🙂
